Prime videos ‘The Divorce Insurance’ stars break unique ROM-COM

Prime Video dives in Uncharted Waters with its new Korean ROM-Com series ‘The Divorce Insurance’, which introduces the provocative concept of insurance against marital dissolution. The series asks the question: “Is there an insurance policy to keep you happy for the rest of your life?”
The series follows the product development team of an insurance company when creating a divorce insurance product that is designed to tackle one of the most urgent concerns of modern society. The show is set in an office environment and concentrates on the passionate actuaris Ki-Jun and the journey of his team to develop this innovative product.
With an All-Star Korean cast, the Lee Dong-Wook series (“Harbin”) contains no Ki-Jun, an insurance actuary who has experienced three marriages and divorces. His personal experience serves as an inspiration for creating the divorce insurance product to help others like him.
Lee Joo-Been (“Money Heist: Korea-Joint Economic Area”) portrays Kang Han-Deul, an insurance insurer whose idiosyncratic personality shines while she undergoes her own transformation after divorce. She joins the Ki-Jun team and gradually develops courage while navigating a new relationship with him.
The ensemble also includes Lee Kwang-Sooo (“Karma”) as a risk country meter a Jeon-Man, whose appearance cool attitude masks his timid nature, and Lee Da-her (“Island”) as Jeon Na-Rae, a financial mathematician who initially starts through an investment lens before her perspective.
In an interview with VarietyLee Dong-Wook focuses on the potentially controversial starting point. “I understand that this concept of divorce insurance can cause a conversation or perhaps controversies,” he acknowledges. “But the message that we want to deliver through our show is not just about divorce as a good thing or a bad thing. We just want to tell the story that divorce is only part of your life.”
He emphasizes the core message of the show: “Life continues even after you are divorced. It is not the end of your life. It is not the end of the world. Your life is not a failure just because you are separated.”
The starting point of the show has largely received positive reactions, according to Lee Joo-Been. “Most people showed positive reactions when I told them about the starting point. They would go as” Oh, is there such a product? If there is one, I would like to get one, “she reveals.” I was even surprised to see that most people responded positively. ”
Lee Da-hee, whose character helps to quantify the financial aspects of divorce, hopes that the show will challenge negative perceptions. “If I think of divorce, there is a lot of uncertainty and fear associated with it. But I think that if there was a product like this on the market, it could help people take the courage to get married and to think about marriage and to separate more,” she explains.
She continues: “In our society there is a negative perception about divorce. I just want to tell people that divorce does not have to be bad. Just as Dong-Wook said, it can be the start of your new life.”
Lee Kwang-Soo, known for his comic skills, brings his characteristic humor to the series through improvisation. “I don’t know which of my many improvised scenes have taken the show, but the director just loved me improvising and ad-libbing in general,” he says.
He emphasizes a recurring improvised moment: “There is an AD lib that appears in almost every episode. It is a joke between myself and Lee Dong-Wook and it is like a series, because it appears over and over again.”
Despite the potentially heavy subject, Kwang-Sooo appreciates the approach of the show. “I thought it was really great how our show not dealing with divorce in a serious and dark way, but in a light -hearted and positive way,” he says, and emphasizes a line from the series that merges its essence: “Both marriage and divorce are choices we make to become happier.”
“The Divorce Insurance” is now streaming on Prime Video.
