NBC Orders Jamie Lee Curtis Rom-Com; Therapy pilot Jane Lynch

NBC has ordered two pilots: a romcom called “Newlyweds” and an untitled comedy about therapists-slash-best friends played by Jane Lynch and Katey Sagal.
“Newlyweds” is written by Gail Lerner, who executive produces with Jamie Lee Curtis, Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum and Scott Schwartz. According to the official logline, the project is “a late-in-life love story about a free-spirited woman and a buttoned-down professor who marry impetuously after a whirlwind courtship.” Lionsgate Television is producing and Universal Television is the studio.
Lerner is best known for her work as a writer and producer on seasons 5 through 8 of NBC’s “Will & Grace” and seasons 1 through 6 of ABC’s “Black-ish.”
The logline for the untitled pilot, written by Kari Lizer, reads: “Ginger (Sagal) and Jill (Lynch) have always been a team as opposites who work best together. As they sort through their past and look to their future, they will discover that despite everything, they wouldn’t change a thing.” The project is loosely inspired by the real-life friendship between therapists and sociologists Pepper Schwartz and Janet Lever, who study sex and gender and act as consulting producers. Executive producers include Krista Vernoff, Andrew Stearn and Alexandre Schmitt of Lizer, Lynch, Sagal and Trip the Light Productions. The pilot is produced by Paramount Television Studios.
Lizer is best known as the creator of “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” which ran for five seasons on CBS from 2006 to 2010. She also served as a writer and producer on seasons 3 through 6 of “Will & Grace,” in which she also appeared in five episodes, among several other acting credits.
