Most Affordable Family Camping Destinations This Summer Ranked | News


New research from car rental comparison and booking website DiscoverCars.com shows that Portugal, Spain and Austria are among the most affordable places for a family camping trip in Europe this summer.

To find the best budget-friendly getaway, DiscoverCars.com analyzed 2-4 popular family campsites in each country in the survey to find the average lowest camping costs for a weeklong stay between July 27 and August 2. They then combined these costs with car rental prices in the area for the same time frame, calculating the total average cost for a week-long trip.

Portugal
In first place is Portugal, where camping and car rental costs for a week were just €363. DiscoverCars.com found that Portugal had the lowest car rental costs at €143 and the lowest average camping costs at €220, making it the most affordable family camping destination this summer.

Spain
In second place when it comes to the most affordable family camping destination is Spain, with an average price of €398 for a week’s camping stay including car rental costs. DiscoverCars.com found that Spain has the second cheapest camping costs at €149, and the third cheapest car rental at €249.

Austria
Austria came in third as the most affordable family camping destination, with a total cost of €445 for a camping stay and car rental costs. Austria was found to be in fourth place with the most affordable camping costs at €187 and car rental at €258, putting it in the top three overall.

Great Britain
Great Britain came in fourth with a total cost of €504. The average camping cost in Great Britain for a week’s stay was €272, the second highest amount. The cost of car rental was €232, which was the second cheapest in the survey.

Sweden
The total average cost for camping and car rental in Sweden was €552, placing the destination fifth for the most affordable family camping. The cost of camping in Sweden was €200 and the car rental price was €352.

The five most expensive countries for a family camping trip this summer

DiscoverCars.com has also found the countries where the average cost of renting a car and staying for a week at a campsite is higher.

The Netherlands comes first with an average cost of € 1,021.
Switzerland comes in second place with an average cost of €958.
Norway is in third place with an average cost of €776.
Finland is in fourth place with an average cost of €637.
France is in fifth place with an average cost of €629.
