Miley Cyrus is too ‘tired’ to think about ‘Hannah Montana’ reboot

Hannah Montana returned to Hollywood on Monday night.

Miley Cyrus celebrated the ‘Hannah Montana 20e Anniversary Special” with a spectacular red carpet premiere at the El Capitan Theater. Before the screening, the former Disney Channel star wrote a Variety interview planting the seeds of what would become the “Hannah Montana” revival celebration.

“You started all this,” Cyrus told me shortly after she arrived. “You started the drama. I was just having fun talking about my bangs and my blonde the last time I saw you and then this happened.”

During a red carpet interview in January at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Cyrus said she was “working hard” on the anniversary plans for “Hannah Montana,” but would not outright confirm that the special was in the works. She simply said with a smile, “You see the pony.”

While she happily honored her iconic pop star persona for the 20th anniversary, Cyrus said she doesn’t have the energy to think about bringing “Hannah Montana” back to the airwaves.

“Girl, I’m tired already,” Cyrus said when asked about a “Hannah Montana” reboot. “This has already been a lot.”

Also walking the carpet were Cyrus’ mother and special co-executive producer Tish Cyrus-Purcell and her sister Brandi Cyrus. Original cast members Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, Cody Linley and Jason Earles, Mateo Arias, Mitchel Musso, Moises Arias and Shanica Knowles were also there.

“Hannah Montana” premiered on Disney Channel in March 2006 and ran for four seasons before ending in 2011. Cyrus played the role of Miley Stewart, a teenager who led a double life as famous pop star Hannah Montana. Cyrus’ father, Billy Ray Cyrus, played her father.

The anniversary special, which premieres March 24 on Disney+ and Hulu, features Cyrus singing some of the series’ most popular songs, an interview with Cyrus conducted by “Call Me Daddy” host Alex Cooper and a surprise appearance from Selena Gomez, who guest-starred in Season 2 as Hannah’s pop star rival Mikayla Skeech.

Earlier this year, Cyrus started teasing that a special was in the works. However, she recently relented Variety cover interview that she wasn’t exactly telling the truth. “I learned this terrible habit – but I actually think it was good advice – from Dolly [Parton]she told writer Ethan Shanfeld. “She told me that if you want something to happen, you have to promote it before it exists. Then no one can say no. So I just started promoting a 20th anniversary ‘Hannah Montana’ special, which literally didn’t exist.”
