Meghan Markle is once again under fire for her fractured relationship with father Thomas Markle after the Duchess publicly shared which flavors of her As Ever jam are favored by different members of her family — raising new questions about the one family member still estranged from her life.
RadarOnline.com can reveal that the 44-year-old Duchess of Sussex used Instagram to promote products from her lifestyle brand As Ever, revealing the favorite preserves of her husband Prince Harry, 41, and their children, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, four.
Meghan wrote online: “Everyone in my family has a different favorite. My husband likes the raspberry, Lil likes the strawberry, and Arch likes both. And I like the marmalade.”
Her post was part of a marketing campaign for her growing business empire, which sells jam, rosé wine and chocolate sprinkles, and comes amid ongoing attention surrounding Meghan’s family tensions and her years-long estrangement from her former Hollywood lighting director father.
The 81-year-old lived a quiet life in the Philippines due to serious health problems, before his recovery from a stroke and leg amputation due to complications from diabetes led him to move to the US to have a prosthesis fitted and undergo physiotherapy.
A source familiar with the tensions in the Meghan family told us: “Every time Meghan shares a glimpse of her family life, her marriage or the close bond she appears to have with Harry and the children, it almost immediately fuels public fascination with the unresolved situation surrounding her father, as that relationship remains one of the saddest and most sensitive elements of her personal story.
“There continues to be enormous speculation as to whether any form of reconciliation could ever take place, especially now that Thomas is older, in declining health and dealing with the aftermath of major medical issues, including the amputation of his leg.”
The insider continued, “People who follow Meghan closely often see these carefully curated moments about family traditions, celebrations and domestic happiness and can’t help but notice her father’s absence from that story.
“For some observers, it raises emotional questions about whether there is still a path back for him after years of estrangement, interviews and public fallout. The tragedy, according to those familiar with the situation, is that the longer the silence continues, the harder it becomes for both sides to repair the damage, especially as Thomas’ health problems make the situation increasingly urgent and final.”
Another insider added: ‘Thomas’s deteriorating health has dramatically increased public attention to his estrangement from Meghan, as there was a widespread assumption that something as serious as a stroke, persistent mobility problems and ultimately the loss of part of his leg could trigger some kind of emotional breakthrough behind the scenes.
“Many people believed that a major health crisis could force both parties to reconsider matters privately, especially given Thomas’ age and the amount of time that has already passed without contact.
“But it appears there has been no real reconciliation or sustained communication between Meghan and her father for years. The rift still seems deep-rooted, despite everything that has happened medically and emotionally.”
The source added: “That’s why even relatively lighthearted posts about Meghan’s products or family routines ultimately lead to a much deeper public conversation about the Markle rift. Her unresolved relationship with Thomas is inextricably linked to Meghan’s broader public story and branding, especially as his health condition has made the situation increasingly tragic and irreversible.”
