Meet the end-of-life planning startup co-founded by NBA All Star Russell Westbrook

The company cooperates with various service providers, such as Hospice care, funeral homes and various insurance companies, so that the platform can be used for free with the option to pay for more premium functions.

Beverly Jr. said he got the idea for Eazewell after he had lost his both parents in a short time. Navigating through what came after their death, he realized how great a burden of the end of life can be and how fragmented the market of these services is.

He added that seeing the recent progress in AI made him realize that the technology could be used to reduce the number of administrative tasks that Rouwers should tackle after a death.

“We have seen how AI has influenced our lives while we are here, but you know that we are now entering a space where it influences our lives after death,” said Beverly Jr.

Eazewell was founded in 2024. The company said that since the platform it has been able to help more than 100,000 families earlier this year.

Now Eazewell is rolling out a new Enterprise platform for Hospice companies, senior living facilities and life insurers. This enables companies to fold the automated functions of Eazewell in their own management software.

In the future, Eazwell hopes to help people manage the digital assets of a loved one after they passed, a task that has become a larger undertaking because the lives of people are increasingly becoming online.

“The average person has somewhere between 70 and 100 digital accounts that are active at any time,” said Beverly Jr. “Your family inherits all those digital accounts and the digital assets too. And that is not typical. We step into a new kind of empire. If we look at the entire landscape, we see a great chance of not only helping people, but just make it much more seamless.”

“Every time I put my name on everything, I try to find ways to open doors, build up trust, find ways to play a major role in it and to be present because I think that is important,” said Westbrook. “And this is not about me or in any way being super technical, but it is more important that families find ways to help them through a loss. And for me the use of my platform is to do that is a no-brainer.”
