Kompas hires Mike Simonsen as Chief Economist

“Mike has a unique opportunity to take complex living data and make something that everyone can understand,” said Robert Reffkin, the founder and CEO of Compass, in a statement. “So when we had the chance to bring him to compass, we didn’t hesitate.”

In this new role at Compass, Simonsen will focus on helping agents and their customers to better understand the housing market analyzes in real time. He will also work with Compass to shape the market reports of the brokerage and to give its data -oriented content into force.

“My personal mission has been to help people understand the housing market and I worked on it for 20 years,” Simonsen told Housingwire. “In the time I spent Altos, Compass came on stage and the Largest brokerage in the country per sales volume – They reach a lot of people and they have 37,000 agents.

“My new role really helps me to continue what I have been working on – agents helping to communicate with buyers and sellers and understand the market.”

Simonsen said that he is enthusiastic to use the size and scope of Compass as the largest company in the country to unlock even more data and insights.

“I hope to expand the way I talk about the market with even more insight than I had previously had,” he said.

Since the real estate sector is confronted with the third year of a recession for home sales, Simonsen said that he is looking forward to helping people better understand the market.

“It’s really a compelling time,” he said. “Consumers and professionals want to know when the market is changing, in which direction it goes in and whether home sales finally take on. There is also the wider economy – are we about a recession?

“All these things are crucial for them to understand. It is a fascinating time to analyze the housing market and to be in industry.”
