Kevin Federline claims sons woke up to Britney Spears holding a knife

Kevin Federline reflects on his former marriage to Britney Spears in his upcoming memoir, You thought you knewand makes some wild claims about his ex.
An excerpt from the book published via The New York Times on Tuesday, Oct. 14, claims that Federline, 47, and Spears’ two sons — Sean Preston, now 20, and Jayden James, now 19 — were afraid to stay with their mother.
“Sometimes they would wake up in the night and find her standing silently in the doorway watching them sleep – ‘Oh, are you awake?’ – with a knife in her hand,” writes Federline. “Then she turned around and walked away without explanation.”
Federline and Spears, 43, were married from 2004 to 2007. He recalls a night in 2008 when Spears was placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold after a standoff involving their sons.
“It was one of the hardest nights of my life,” Federline writes in the book. “I felt sick about what she was going through. This was someone I loved. Someone I had built a life with. The mother of my children.”
After their split, Spears’ father, Jamie Spearsplaced her under conservatorship after the singer suffered a public breakdown. Although the legal settlement has ended as of November 2021, Federline is still concerned about Britney.
“The truth is, this situation with Britney feels like it’s hurtling toward something irreversible,” the clip reads. “It has become impossible to pretend that everything is fine.”
Federline added: “From where I stand, the clock is ticking and we are approaching the eleventh hour. Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will hold the pieces.”
A representative for Spears responded to Federline’s claims in a statement We weekly on Tuesday.
“Now that news of Kevin’s book breach has reached, he and others are once again taking advantage of her, and unfortunately this comes after Kevin’s child support has ended,” the statement reads. “All she cares about is her children, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism. She chronicles her journey in her memoir [2023’s The Woman in Me].”
In an interview with the newspaper about the upcoming book, Federline said his sons are his biggest concern right now.
“I’ve never been against Britney,” he claimed. “I’ve just been trying to help my sons have an incredible relationship with their mother. And that’s hard because when I really think about everything that’s happened, my children don’t know the woman I married. And I’ve spent 20 years trying to bridge that gap.”
Federline also addressed the widespread #FreeBritney movement that was rampant as Spears tried to break free from her conservatorship in court.
“All those people who put so much effort into this should now put the same energy into the ‘Save Britney’ movement,” Federline writes in his memoir. “Because this is no longer about freedom. It’s about survival.”
Federline also makes a plea to anyone “who has ever been moved by Britney” to share their concerns about the exes’ children.
“Now more than ever, they need your support,” the book excerpt reads. “I have been their buffer for years, but now it is bigger than me. It is time to sound the alarm.”
You thought you knew will be available in bookstores from Tuesday, October 21.
