With more space in her personal life, Katie has turned her attention back to work. In recent years, she has focused heavily on theater, earning praise for performances in productions such as The Wanderers off-Broadway in 2023, the 2024 Broadway revival of Our city and, more recently, a three-month run in Hedda Gabler at San Diego’s Old Globe Theater that ended in March.

“I am determined to live a life and not let this industry dictate decisions as simple as what I wear or as complicated as what I do,” Katie – who, despite stepping back from the spotlight, has long remained an envied source of fashion inspiration – said City & Country in 2024. “You don’t want to be afraid of anything, do you?”

She has fearlessly taken creative control of her career and has recently written, directed and starred Happy hoursa film trilogy about former young lovers who reconnect as adults and reunites her with former ones Dawson‘s costar – and former friend – Joshua Jackson, 47, nearly three decades after they found fame together on the coming-of-age series.

“Working with Josh after so many years is a testament to friendship,” she shared on Instagram. He also recently reflected on their enduring bond, calling Katie a “friend for life” in a March 10 interview on Today. “Being able to do this again” – they made the first film last summer – “was quite magical… To still have good chemistry with someone after all these years….”
