Karoline Leavitt scoffed after praising Trump’s White House makeover

Karoline Leavitt may be away from her position as press secretary right now on maternity leave, but she’s still feeling the wrath of critics. RadarOnline.com can reveal, especially after she praised President Trump’s White House makeover.

Trump has spent most of his second term bragging about his renovations, including a $400 million ballroom.

One will take place on Thursday, May 28 X user shared side-by-side photos of the Christopher Columbus Memorial Fountain in Washington, DC, with one photo showing people sleeping in tents on the grass, and the other showing notable high-profile figures in a photo after the tents were removed.

“Donald Trump and Doug Burgum are generational… My goodness,” the user captioned the post, referring to the Secretary of the Interior.

Leavitt quickly responded to the original post, praising, “Making DC beautiful again… how can anyone oppose this?” But while she gained some supporters, there was also a lot of backlash.

One person raged: ‘Maybe because we can’t afford health care or decent food.’

Another said: ‘What have you done to the homeless? Any updates on them?’ and one user said: “Unwanted posts about fountains and monuments to silence war spending and Epstein’s hiding. Give us all a break.”

After a commenter labeled Leavitt’s response a “circus clown show,” someone commented, “Do you really want to clean up DC?” Get that f–k out of there as quickly as possible. You’ve destroyed this country long enough.’

The 13-foot statue of Christopher Columbus was built in March outside the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on the White House grounds.

“President Trump has rightly praised Christopher Columbus as ‘the original American hero, a giant of Western civilization, and one of the most brave and visionary men to ever walk the earth,’” spokesman Davis Ingle previously said of the statue.

He added: “In this White House, Christopher Columbus is a hero, and President Trump will ensure he is honored as such for generations to come.”

Trump has landed in hot water for seemingly being more focused on his latest construction projects, even as Americans feel the impact of the current war with Iran.

The East Wing of the White House was demolished in October 2025 to begin construction of the much-discussed Presidential Ballroom, but a federal judge temporarily halted the project on March 31.

While Congress has only appropriated about $2.5 million for White House repairs, the ballroom is believed to reach the $400 million mark; However, Trump has claimed that the updates are being funded by billionaire donors and even his own money.

Last year, as construction began on the 90,000-square-foot ballroom, Trump spoke to reporters and boasted: “You’re probably hearing the beautiful sound of construction in the back. You hear that sound? That’s music to my ears. I love that sound. Other people don’t like it, I love it.”

“I think when I hear that sound it reminds me of money,” the 79-year-old added.

Trump has several projects he seems obsessed with, including the renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and even a planned 230-foot triumphal arch, which if built would seemingly block the view of Arlington National Cemetery.
