‘I always felt guilty:’ Inside Valerie Bertinelli’s cocaine confessions

In one Instagram video from May 2024 after the premiere of son Wolfgang Van Halen’s episode Behind the musicthe Hot in Cleveland alum opened up about how she turned her relationship with Eddie into “a kind of imaginative, soulmate recreation of history.”

“I fell in love with him when I was 20, and it quickly turned to drugs, alcohol and infidelity,” she said. “Nothing that would make you feel loved, wanted and cared for. Nothing that would make your soulmate scream, that’s for sure.”

Bertinelli continued, “But after Ed died, I was more than willing to put myself in the category of grieving widow for a man I hadn’t lived with in 20 years. What we had together was a beautiful son that we both loved unconditionally. That’s what I got from that marriage, Wolfie, the best thing that ever happened to me. Not a soulmate.”

Eddie died on October 6, 2020, at the age of 65. Although he battled cancer for years, his death certificate listed a cerebral infarction or stroke as his immediate cause of death.
