FBI declares three Nancy Guthrie kidnapping notes fake as search shifts

As the days without Nancy continued, Savannah appeared in a video alongside her siblings, Camron and Annie, to advocate for their mother’s safe return. But right now they don’t seem to know what to believe.

In a March interview with NBC, the Today co-anchor said her family had received several ransom notes, although they believed only the first two messages were authentic.

“I think a lot of different notes have come, and I think most of them – from what I understand – are not real, and I haven’t seen them,” she told Hoda Kotb. “But you know, someone who sends a fake ransom note really needs to look deeply at themselves, at a family that’s hurting.

“But I believe that the two notes that we have received and responded to, we tend to believe are genuine.”

Now that the notes have apparently been debunked, researchers may be back to square one.
