Air Canada and Ponta Delgada Airport improve connections between the Azores and North America | News

Air Canada and the Portuguese authorities, as well as representatives from the tourism and business sectors, today celebrated the launch of a new direct summer service from June 12 between Ponta Delgada’s João Paulo II Airport (PDL) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), improving connectivity between the Azores and Canada. The event took place at João Paulo II Airport in the Azores.

The new service will operate three times a week throughout the summer season, offering customers a convenient direct connection between Ponta Delgada and Toronto in just over six hours. Flights depart from Ponta Delgada every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, with return services from Toronto on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Mr. Rocky Lo, Managing Director of International Sales at Air Canada, said: “We are excited to launch our new direct service between Ponta Delgada and Toronto, further strengthening ties between the Azores, Portugal and Canada. This route will improve access for travelers visiting friends, family and the islands, and support the growth of tourism and business ties in both regions. It will also strengthen further connectivity across Air Canada’s broader network, making transatlantic travel more efficient and accessible for our customers.”

Through Air Canada’s Toronto hub, passengers traveling from Ponta Delgada can enjoy seamless onward connections to destinations in Canada, the United States and South America. Popular follow-on destinations include Montréal, Vancouver, Cancún, Bogotá, Mexico and Brazil, all accessible through one booking and a convenient transfer experience.

Passengers transiting to the United States via Canada can also take advantage of U.S. Customs and Immigration facilities in Toronto, allowing them to complete pre-departure formalities and arrive in the U.S. as domestic passengers.
