Katy Perry describes ‘catching up’ with Taylor Swift years after feud

“I actually went to a show in Australia really quickly and I had the day off before the show,” Perry, 40, recalled on Friday, January 17. TikTok video with British radio show Capital. “I had the day off and I was like, ‘Hey girl, I’m going to the show’ and she was so excited.”
She continued, “I was so excited. People gave me bracelets, and I think Rita Ora gave me a bracelet. I loved it. It’s like a big community: a cute, sweet community.”
Perry attended one of Swift’s February 2024 shows in Sydney and later met the fellow pop star backstage.
“I saw her and we need to catch up,” Perry said Capitalreferring to the Instagram selfie the couple took to capture the moment. “I love her so much.”
Swift, 35, and Perry became friends in 2009 after both made their first mark on the music scene. They later sparked feud speculation after their respective affairs with Johannes Mayer and rumors surfaced that Perry had poached Swift’s backup dancers for her own tour.
‘She did something so terrible. I thought, ‘Oh, we’re just straight up enemies.’ And it wasn’t even about a man! It had to do with business,” Swift claimed Rolling stone in 2014. “She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to get some people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational – you wouldn’t believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s uncomfortable and I don’t like it.”

Courtesy of Katy Perry/InstagramSwift said at the time that she promised never to mention Perry publicly again. They finally buried the hatchet in 2018, a year before the “I Kissed a Girl” singer made a surprise appearance in Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” music video.
“I just thought, you know, she was about to start something new and big and needed the support,” Perry said on KIIS 1065’s The Kyle & Jackie O Show in July 2018, referencing her and Swift’s music video cameo Reputation tour. “And really, when I was finishing mine, I realized how much we have in common. And maybe there are only five other people in the world who can have the same kind of conversations and understand where we come from, and that we need to celebrate our commonality and our friendship and be able to be there for each other.
