A few hours after Trump’s announcement, House Speaker Mike Johnson said Gaetz resigned from Congress over the loyalist’s preparation for the attorney general confirmation process.

Sources said ABC News many people gasped audibly when Trump chose Gaetz during a rally. The Department of Justice has launched an investigation into Gaetz over the alleged sex trafficking incident. Meanwhile, the House Ethics Committee also began investigating him on the same allegations.

Gaetz also revealed that he would not return to Congress in 2025.

“I’m still going to join the fight, but it will be from a new position. I have no intention of running in the 119th Congress,” Gaetz told Charlie Kirk in an interview.
