Manoj Bajpayee’s Journalist Faces Death Threats In ‘Despatch’ Trailer

Streamer ZEE5 Global has released the first trailer for “Despatch”, starring Manoj Bajpayee as a crime journalist whose investigation into a Mumbai scam turns into a life-threatening ordeal.

The footage shows mounting threats against Bajpayee’s character Joy Bag as he chases a breakthrough story that ensnares him in a web of media corruption and underworld power plays.

The thriller, which has been screened at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival and the International Film Festival of India, Goa, will premiere on ZEE5 Global on December 13.

Director Kanu Behl, who has been developing the project since 2016, says they “uncovered a wealth of untold, breathtaking stories from the world of journalism, especially those involving Mumbai’s dangerous underworld. Our goal was not to just make a thriller, but to delve into the flawed, human side of investigative journalism – by showing the raw, hard truth behind the headlines.”

The film continues Bajpayee’s successful career with ZEE5 Global, after his lead roles in ‘Dial 100’, ‘Silence’ and ‘Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai’.

“I have undergone intensive preparatory work for this role,” says Bajpayee. “Kanu is a tough taskmaster who pushed us beyond our comfort to deliver the very best, so we hope this film strikes a chord with viewers and pushes us to do better.”

Producer Ronnie Screwvala of RSVP Movies comments, “Manoj Bajpayee’s stellar performance, accompanied by the stellar acting of Shahana Goswami and Arrchita Agarwal, combined with Kanu Behl’s unique vision, have added an extra dimension to this thrilling story.”

Manish Kalra, Chief Business Officer of ZEE5 Global, positions the film within the platform’s strategic vision: “The power of cinema to connect through compelling storytelling is at the core of what we do, and our latest release, ‘Despatch ‘, is a perfect example of this. Manoj Bajpayee’s outstanding performance, combined with Kanu Behl’s leadership, has made this project one we are incredibly proud of.”
