International Emmys 2024: the complete list of winners
French-Japanese drama series “Les Gouttes de Dieu [Drops of God]”, Argentinian comedy series “División Palermo” and actor Timothy Spall were among the winners of the 52nd annual International Emmy Awards.
The ceremony was hosted by stand-up comedian Vir Das on Monday at the New York Hilton Midtown Hotel. This year, 21 countries were represented in 14 categories and 56 nominees.
Spall won best actor for his role as Peter Farquhar in the British true-crime series ‘The Sixth Commandment’. Other winners representing Great Britain included ‘Otto Baxter: Not a F**ing Horror Story’ for best documentary, ‘Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story’ for sports documentary and ‘Tabby McTat’ for children: animation.
The highest acting award for a female artist was awarded to Thai actor Aokbab-Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying for Netflix’s ‘Hunger’. In the best drama category, the International Emmy went to ‘Les Gouttes de Dieu [Drops of God]”, a multinational, multilingual series set in the world of wine and gastronomy. Argentina’s ‘División Palermo’, which follows a civilian patrol team, won the trophy for best comedy series.
Special awards were presented during the evening to Gaumont CEO Sidonie Dumas and writer-producer David E. Kelley. French actor Omar Sy presented the International Emmy Directorate Award to Dumas, while Kelley received the International Emmy Founder Award from producer and director Michael Pressman.
In his acceptance speech, Kelley acknowledged his mentor, the late writer-producer Steven Bochco.
“I wrote my first script ever and gave it to Steven to read. He looked me in the eye and said, ‘You can do this. You can do this.’ Imagine a young writer hearing these words from a man he admired and aspired to be like,” Kelley said on stage. “All of you tonight are here because of your success. And with that success comes the opportunity to become a mentor. Take advantage of that.”
