By Liam Payne relatives gathered at his funeral to say goodbye after his death at age 31.
The singer’s parents Karen And Geoff Payne were photographed holding back tears as Payne’s coffin was taken to his private funeral held on Wednesday, November 20 in Amersham, England.
They were just two of those present at the somber event that took place just over a month after Payne’s death. His former One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan And Zayn Malik were also photographed at the funeral along with Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy.
We weekly previously confirmed that Payne died on October 16 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is survived by parents Geoff And Karen Payneolder sisters Nicholas And Ruth and his 7-year-old son Bear, whom he shared with ex Cheryl Cole.
Shortly after news of Liam’s death emerged, his family released a statement to the BBC: “We are heartbroken. Liam will live on in our hearts forever and we will remember him for his kind, funny and courageous soul. We support each other as a family as best we can and ask for privacy and space during this terrible time.”
Liam’s sister Ruth then shared a lengthy tribute via Instagram on October 19.
“I don’t believe this is happening,” she wrote at the time. “Many times I have publicly poured my heart out with pride about Liam, but never much about life as his sister. Liam is my best friend, no one could ever make me laugh like him. Doing his impressions always made me moan and he loved seeing how much fun he could get.
She continued: “Liam knew he could call me anytime, any day and I would pick him up or I would pick him up anytime if he just needed to come home. Our calls often resulted in laughing about his ideas and the next adventure, discussing his plans and talking through his problems, but it always ended with ‘love you miss you’ ‘love you ru.’
Ruth acknowledged that her mind “had trouble keeping track of what was happening, and I don’t understand where you went.”
She concluded her letter by speaking directly to her late brother. “Thank you for changing my life, thank you for the incredible memories, thank you for being the best brother and friend I will ever have!” wrote Rutte. “We will take care of Bear and he will always know how great his dad is and how much you idolize him. I’m sorry I couldn’t save you. I love you, oh how my heart misses you. One last time I just want you to know: I’m here if you need anything. I would drive to the ends of the universe to bring you back.”
Nicola later shared a statement of her own via Instagram on October 21.
“When I saw the news pop up on my phone that you had left us, I felt cold, I wanted so badly for this not to be true,” she wrote. “I spent days hoping it was a mistake and someone was wrong. You were really too good for this earth, you are an angel who just lived to make people laugh and happy. You always showed kindness to everyone you met and it shows how many people confirmed what we always knew!”
Nicola said Liam’s relatives were his “biggest fans”, adding: “Your talent alone can take you miles ahead, but also just being you.”
She continued: “Unfortunately, this cruel world is always like this [too] They’re quick to judge someone based on a few five-second clips and then think that being able to talk like they know you gives them the right. We knew you and we loved you.”
Nicola hoped that Liam has “finally found peace up there and that you will continue to look after us as well as you have done in life” and also promised to “make sure Bear knows about his dad and how much you loved him.”
As for Liam’s father, Geoff, he traveled to Buenos Aires after his son’s death. Geoff was seen looking at the tributes left by fans outside the hotel where Liam died. The Argentine Public Prosecution Service subsequently confirmed this Us that Geoff had spoken to the prosecutor of the case, Dr. Andres Esteban Madreaabout “his desire to investigate and know what happened to his son” and his willingness to assist in the investigation.
