Hamad International Airport introduces biometric travel through more than 700 touchpoints | News

Hamad International Airport (HIA) and Qatar Airways have jointly implemented and now launched the Fast Pass solution, a new biometric service designed to support a more paperless departure journey with technology partner SITA. Using facial recognition, the Fast Pass service allows passengers to pass through key airport checkpoints with fewer document checks.
The service is one of the largest biometric passenger rollouts of its kind in the Middle East and globally, connecting more than 700 touchpoints into a single trusted journey, with security and data protection built into every step.
Fast Pass registration is available at self-service check-in kiosks at the airport and via the Qatar Airways mobile app. Departing passengers can then navigate through dedicated biometric touchpoints through check-in, bag drop, security and boarding, using their face as a boarding pass.
The process takes just seconds, reducing document checks and waiting times, especially during busy periods. Participation is optional, with standard processing still available and staff on site to assist.
The demand for biometric travel is growing worldwide. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), most passengers now prefer biometric identification over physical documents. As part of HIA’s wider Innovation Roadmap, Fast Pass aligns HIA with this shift and provides a more efficient way to navigate the airport.
A rollout on this scale shows what the paperless passenger processing standard could look like. Fast Pass will continue to expand to additional touchpoints, working with technology partners to gradually improve the overall journey, with the capability becoming available to other interested airlines operating from HIA in the near future.
