AmaWaterways unveils first look at AmaRudi, Europe’s largest river cruise ship | News

AmaWaterways today unveiled the first details and renderings of the AmaRudi, the highly anticipated second double-width river vessel set to debut on the Danube in spring 2027.

Building on the groundbreaking design of the AmaMagna, which redefined expectations for river cruising when launched in 2019, AmaRudi will become the largest river cruise ship in Europe alongside her sister ship. Designed to accommodate just 196 guests in 98 staterooms and suites, the new ship will offer an extraordinary amount of personal space, multiple dining options, extensive wellness amenities and carefully designed public spaces inspired by the destinations along the Danube.

AmaRudi is the first ship in the company’s history to be named after a man, in honor of co-founder Rudi Schreiner, whose pioneering vision helped shape the modern river cruise industry. Born and raised near the Austrian Danube, Schreiner spent his childhood exploring the river that would become AmaRudi’s home.

“AmaMagna changed what travelers thought was possible on a river cruise ship,” said Rudi Schreiner, co-founder and chairman of AmaWaterways. “We knew there would be a good time to rethink that concept, and as river cruising continues to grow, now is the time. More and more travelers are making the switch from ocean cruising to rivers, and many are looking for a sense of space and choice. AmaMagna has been one of the most rewarding projects of my career, so the fact that this new ship bears my name makes it especially meaningful. I see it as part of the legacy we’ve built together over more than two decades of river cruising.”

The design concept for AmaRudi combines contemporary elegance, exceptional comfort and subtle historical references inspired by the cities and cultures along the Danube River. While the ship builds on the spacious double-width design first introduced with the AmaMagna, it will introduce a number of new features and guest experiences.

Culinary experiences
Dining will be at the core of the AmaRudi experience, with multiple locations ranging from Journey’s Restaurant and specialty restaurant The Chef’s Table to al fresco dining experiences and the intimate Rudi’s Wine Bar, a welcoming gathering place inspired by Schreiner’s passion for wine and European culture. Complementing these locations is AmaWaterways’ enhanced dining experience, including complimentary beer, soft drinks and a curated selection of more than 30 wines available at lunch and dinner, as well as new Italian lunch menus served at The Chef’s Table. A built-in Deck Club BBQ on the Sun Deck will further expand the ship’s dining options.

Wellness & Recreation
Guests have access to an expansive wellness center with massage treatment rooms, hair and nail treatments, a state-of-the-art fitness center and dedicated areas for relaxation. Led by AmaWaterways’ dedicated Wellness Hosts, guests can enjoy a variety of fitness classes and wellness programs both onboard and ashore. The Sun Deck will also feature a large pickleball court, providing even more opportunities to stay active while enjoying the scenery along the Danube.

Entertainment
AmaRudi introduces a completely new entertainment concept developed exclusively for the ship. Designed as a vibrant social hub, the versatile venue features a cinema, karaoke, billiards and a jukebox, while thoughtful soundproofing ensures guest comfort throughout the ship.

As with all new AmaWaterways vessels, sustainability will play an important role in the design and operation of AmaRudi. The vessel will feature advanced Stage V engines, solar panels, shore power connections, spud poles and lightweight construction materials designed to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact when sailing Europe’s waterways.

“AmaRudi reflects our confidence in the future of river cruising and our continued commitment to innovation,” said Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways. “From the moment AmaMagna launched, travelers and travel advisors wondered if we would ever build a ship like them again. With AmaRudi, we are taking that concept one step further. There is a great opportunity to continue to push the boundaries of what a river cruise ship can be, while maintaining the exceptional service and intimate experience that have defined our company for more than twenty years.”

Since her debut, AmaMagna has remained one of the most talked-about ships in the industry, earning praise for her spacious accommodation, extensive dining options and innovative design.

AmaRudi is expected to sail on the Danube in the spring of 2027. The vessel will operate some of AmaWaterways’ most popular Danube routes. Additional details on accommodations, onboard experiences and booking information will be announced in the coming months.
