Barceló Roma opens its doors after an extensive renovation | News

Barceló Hotel Group announces the opening of Barceló Roma, a new city hotel in the Italian capital and the result of a €41 million investment. Following a complete renovation, the hotel pays tribute to 20th-century Roman rationalist architecture and will set a new benchmark for contemporary hospitality in one of Europe’s most visited destinations.
Perfectly located near the historic center of Rome and the Vatican City, Barceló Roma is a dynamic destination where business, culture and modern city life come together. The 352 rooms combine refined design, comfort and high-quality finishes, offering something for all types of guests.

The dining experience at Barceló Roma includes two restaurants and a stylish lounge bar, where Roman culinary traditions are reinterpreted with a contemporary twist. Guests can also enjoy the signature B-LikEat breakfast, developed by Barceló Hotel Group to reflect its commitment to wellness, sustainability and locally sourced ingredients. The breakfast experience features organic produce, artisanal specialties and carefully curated options tailored to the needs of today’s health-conscious traveler. To complement the experience there is a fully equipped fitness center and an outdoor pool. “We are delighted to celebrate the opening of Barceló Roma, a project that perfectly reflects our vision of contemporary hospitality while showcasing the unique identity of one of the world’s most fascinating destinations,” said José Ramón Álvarez Cervela, Director of the Urban Europe Division at Barceló Hotel Group.

A tribute to “The Other Rome”: Barceló Roma is inspired by “The Other Rome”, a concept that pays tribute to the city’s rationalist and modernist architecture, which reshaped Rome during the 20th century. The project reinterprets classical Roman monumentalism through a contemporary lens, combining materials such as travertine and concrete with the clean, geometric lines that define this architectural movement. The architectural design was led by Rome-based studio Space Planners, while the interior was created by Milan-based Chiara Caberlon Studio. Inspired by the environment, the hotel’s design is based on the Tenuta dell’Acquafredda nature reserve and the ancient Roman road Via Aurelia, resulting in an aesthetic that combines nature, history and contemporary life. Through the use of refined materials, sophisticated lighting and a carefully curated color palette – with amber and green tones inspired by the natural landscape, terracotta accents rooted in Roman architectural tradition and gold metallic details adding bright, elegant accents – the interiors combine contemporary sophistication with historical references. The result is a place that connects past and present, offering an authentic Roman experience from a modern perspective, with a particular focus on well-being and sustainability.

One of the most distinctive features of the project is the main staircase, an architectural feature with a striking visual impact. The contemporary design, combined with layered lighting and a mix of materials, makes it one of the hotel’s most iconic spaces.

A strategic location for MICE: “Italy represents a key strategic market within our European expansion plans, and Rome, with its global appeal and strong demand for both business and leisure travelers, plays a central role in this vision. The opening of Barceló Roma marks an important milestone in strengthening our presence in the country and consolidating our position among Europe’s leading city destinations. Looking ahead, we are confident that Barceló Roma will establish itself as one of the city’s leading hotels in the MICE sector and as a flagship for our brand in Italy offers a distinctive experience that combines design, innovation and excellent service,” said José Ramón Álvarez Cervela, Director of the European Urban Division at Barceló Hotel Group. With this opening, Barceló Hotel Group strengthens its commitment to MICE in one of Europe’s most important city destinations, further positioning Rome as a strategic hub for business tourism and international events. With more than 1,400 square meters of space dedicated to events and conferences and 8 meeting rooms, Barceló Roma is designed to host business meetings, conferences and exclusive events in an elegant and highly functional environment.

In addition to its strong business infrastructure and attractiveness, Rome offers a wealth of cultural, culinary and entertainment options, in addition to a wide range of museums, exhibitions and urban experiences that allow visitors to combine their professional commitments with leisure.
