Visit Maldives records highest annual income in eight years at 2025 Annual General Meeting | News

Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on June 9, 2026 at Meeruma Hall, reporting its strongest financial performance in eight years and marking a year marked by tourism growth, strengthened governance and expanded international destination marketing activities.
During the meeting, shareholders reviewed and approved the company’s annual report and audited financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2025.
VMC recorded a total self-generated income of MVR 32.54 million in 2025, the highest annual income the company has achieved in the past eight years. Revenues were generated through membership fees, participation in international trade fairs and roadshows, publications and other commercial activities, reflecting continued growth in stakeholder engagement and revenue diversification.
The AGM also highlighted a landmark year for Maldivian tourism. In 2025, the Maldives welcomed more than two million tourists, reaching the milestone earlier than ever before, while tourism revenue exceeded US$5.57 billion, marking a 16.4 percent increase compared to the previous year.
The Corporation has contributed to these broader industry achievements through destination marketing campaigns, international trade engagement, strategic partnerships, media outreach and digital promotional activities implemented in key global markets.
Abdulla Ghiyas Riyaz, Chairman of the Board of Directors, noted at the General Meeting that the 2025 performance reflected the collective efforts of the tourism sector and the company’s continued focus on strengthening the competitiveness of destinations.
“The 2025 performance demonstrates the strength of the Maldives tourism sector and the value of collaboration between government agencies, industry stakeholders and our international partners. While the company’s record financial performance reflects stronger stakeholder engagement and commercial growth, our broader success lies in supporting a tourism sector that continues to deliver economic value to the country, while maintaining the Maldives’ position as one of the world’s most sought-after destinations.”
The meeting also discussed the most important management developments implemented during the year. In July 2025, the company was officially rebranded from Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation to Visit Maldives Corporation under Presidential Decree No. 19/2025, reflecting a renewed institutional direction and strengthened global positioning. During the reporting period, the Board of Directors convened 30 meetings, adopted 70 board decisions and adopted 59 circular resolutions. Two Extraordinary General Meetings were also held to approve the company name change and the expansion of the Board from seven to nine directors.
On the international stage, the Maldives achieved significant recognition in 2025, winning the World’s Leading Destination at the World Travel Awards for the sixth year in a row and the World’s Leading Green Destination for the second year in a row.
The AGM further highlighted the company’s extensive marketing activities during the year, including 46 destination campaigns, 27 partnership initiatives, participation in 16 international trade fairs, 14 familiarization tours, 27 public relations activities and strategic engagements in key source markets.
One of the key initiatives of the year was the launch of the three-year global partnership with Liverpool Football Club, positioning the Maldives brand to an audience of over 205 million followers worldwide. The Corporation also signed eleven strategic Memorandums of Understanding with leading industry partners, including airlines, financial institutions and global travel platforms.
Visit Maldives Corporation expressed its appreciation to government agencies, tourism industry stakeholders, partners, members and staff for their continued support and contributions throughout the year. The Corporation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening destination promotion, stakeholder collaboration and sustainable tourism development to support the tourism sector in the Maldives.
