Donald Trump leaves ‘Meet the Press’ interview

President Donald Trump walked out of his interview with “Meet the Press” after getting into a verbal sparring match with Kristen Welker over claims of election fraud.

Tensions began to rise as Welker pressed Trump if, despite opposition from both parties, he planned to move forward with his $1.8 billion “anti-armament fund,” intended to protect individuals who say they are being prosecuted by the federal government, including those who invaded the Capitol on Jan. 6. Trump claimed that the people involved in the attack had “lost everything” and that on the day they “had FBI agents leading them into the building.” Welker repeatedly returned to the latter, claiming that Trump “had no evidence for that.”

“I don’t know what’s going to happen with the arms fund,” Trump said. “I like the idea because people like you, the fake dirty press, the corrupt press, people like stupid Biden, he’s not smart enough to know what’s going on, but people who surrounded him, surrounded his beautiful Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, what they did to people’s lives, they destroyed people. They sent people to jail who did nothing wrong.”

“To be clear, there is no evidence to back up what you’re saying,” Welker responded.

Trump argued that there was “tremendous evidence” before saying that “the election was rigged.”

After more back and forth (Welker claims “no evidence,” Trump doubles down), the president lashed out at Welker and “Meet the Press.”

“They are crooked, just like you are crooked, your press is crooked,” Trump declared. “And ‘Meet the Press’ is crooked.”

“To be honest, I’m not crooked,” Welker said.

“Well, then you’re playing right into their hands,” Trump replied. “You’re either crooked or you’re stupid.”

Eventually, Trump had enough and told Welker before walking away, “You’re a one-sided crooked network. Sorry. Let’s stop it because I’ve had enough. Thanks, honey. Have fun.”

The interview took place Friday in Wisconsin and aired Sunday morning on “Meet the Press.”
