Dakota Johnson finds buyer for $6 million ‘Fifty Shades’ home within days

Actress from ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Dakota Johnson‘s “extraordinary” mid-century modern retreat in Los Angeles is already listed — just days after the on-screen star put the property on the market for $6 million.
Johnson, 36, bought the “masterclass modernism” in January 2016, when she paid $3.55 million for the property, using some of the money she earned starring in the “Fifty Shades” franchises.
However, after more than two decades of ownership, the actress is the daughter of Hollywood legends Melanie Griffith And Don Johnson– made the decision to part with the picturesque property and offer the three-bedroom, three-bathroom home for almost double the price she bought it for.
Now, just a week later, property records show the home is under a “conditional” offer, meaning Johnson has accepted a buyer’s proposed price and the deal is currently in the process of closing, albeit with certain conditions that must be met before the deal closes.
It’s currently unclear which offer Johnson has accepted – and it’s likely that she and her agent, Ruby Fay van Engel & Volkers Beverly Hills will entertain additional interest in the home until the sale has closed.
Originally built in 1947, the three-bedroom, three-bathroom home was designed by the acclaimed architect Carl Maston and is described in the listing as a “masterclass in California modernism, where warm wood, poured concrete and wood-framed glass walls dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors.”
After purchasing the home, Johnson undertook an elegant renovation of the property, working with renowned design firm Pierce and Ward to turn the home into her dream retreat, a project she later presented in a shoot for Architectural Digest.
During the 2020 photo shoot, the actress proudly revealed some of her most treasured personal items she filled the house with, including a note from her grandmother: Tippi Hedrenan image of her performance on ‘Saturday Night Live’ in 2015, and artwork painted by, among others David Hockney And Harmony Korine.
Many of these personal belongings can be seen in the listing photos of the home, which spans just over 3,200 square feet and was once described by the “Materialists” star as a “treehouse” of sorts because of the leafy trees that surround the property, which is tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac in West Hollywood.
What is interesting is Johnson’s decision to put the property on the market wherever it is listed Ruby Fay by Engel & Volkers Beverly Hills – comes just six years after she told Architectural Digest that she would probably “never want to sell” it, having fallen in love with it as soon as she toured it for the first time.
“I immediately noticed how clean it was, but also cozy,” she told the outlet. “I thought, ‘I never want to sell this place.'”
The actress added that she chose to purchase the property as her first major purchase after securing the role of Anastasia Steele in the ‘Fifty Shades’ trilogy because she felt “it would be healthy to have a base,” especially as her Hollywood career took off.
“With my job and how quickly my schedule can change, it’s important that I have a place that I can go to and that’s mine,” she said. “Psychologically speaking, I’m stuck somewhere. This place is my anchor.”
Noting that the property was the second she saw during her house hunting, Johnson explained that she fell not only for the house itself, but also for its fascinating history, including Maston’s close ties to fellow mid-century modern pioneers. Richard Neutra And John Lautner.
“Maston was buddies with Lautner and Neutra, and they all went to Musso and Frank together because there was a hostess that they all had a crush on. Carl ended up marrying her, and this was the house they lived in,” she revealed.
Despite a painstaking overhaul of the house, Johnson has retained many of the most awe-inspiring design elements from Maston’s original design, including the ‘expansive walls of glass’ that open directly onto the rear garden and pool, as well as the wooden walls, exposed beams and striking red brick.
However, other areas needed a more thorough renovation, with designer Emily Ward She explained that the floor on the second floor was originally made of cork, which she said “wasn’t salvageable,” despite admitting it was “really cool.” Instead, she and her co-founder, Louisa Piercereplaced the material with more durable hardwood floors on the top floor.
Johnson paid special attention to the master suite, which features a master bedroom, a large walk-in closet and an elegant bathroom painted in a custom shade of pink inspired by a sweater she owned. Maria-Kate And Ashley Olsen‘s fashion brand, The Row.
She also added a huge bathtub in the center of the room, with a large door to the outside, as well as large “double sinks,” which she previously joked were the “key to a healthy relationship.”
Meanwhile, the main living space features concrete floors, adding an industrial feel to the otherwise organic space, creating the perfect blend of aesthetics.
However, Maston’s emphasis on blurring the boundaries between inside and outside remained.
“The main living level is notable for its restraint: expansive walls of glass on two sides open directly onto the swimmer’s pool, flooding the interior with natural light and creating an effortless dialogue between architecture and landscape,” the listing notes.
In addition to the pool, the exterior of the property, which sits on just over 0.2 “lush and tiered” acres, also features a barbecue area, a fire pit, and several patios and outdoor spaces, including a raised perch that overlooks the entire backyard.
Although the actress – who recently signed on as a new spokesperson for Calvin Klein – has not yet revealed why she chose to sell the property, reports emerged in October that she had purchased a house. new home in the tony Outpost Estates neighborhood of Los Angeles.
According to SterrenmagazineJohnson paid $5.3 million for a beautiful Mediterranean-style home that was originally built in the 1950s but underwent a stunning renovation shortly before being put on the market.
Property records show that the home in question – which has four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms and measures over 3,500 square feet – was purchased through a trust that is coupled with the same trust Johnson used to purchase the home she now has listed.
Both trusts are managed by Johnson’s accountant, Anthony Bonsignorewhich also counts John McEnroe, Greta Gerwig, David HavenAnd Sterling K. Brown among his clientele.
In the years since she bought her mid-century modern home, Johnson has invested in several other properties, including a Malibu mansion she bought with her former partner. Cold play frontman Chris Martinin 2020.
The duo bought the sprawling home for $12.5 million through a trust linked to the musician’s longtime business manager, but they sold it just over a year later for the much higher price of $14.4 million.
Johnson and Martin, who had an on-again, off-again relationship, finally called time on their relationship in 2025 after eight years together, with sources claiming at the time that they could not agree on plans for their future together.
The actress has since been linked to being a musician Role modelwhose real name is Tucker Pillsbury. Although she hasn’t commented on that romance yet, Sources told People magazine in April that the couple had been dating since late 2025 and that they were “taking it slow.”
Johnson’s mother, Griffith, did However, it appears she is giving her approval to the musician, saying in a video posted by gossip account DeuxMoi that she thought he was “fantastic.”
