Mediawan and BYD unveil special episode ‘Miraculous Chibi’

Mediawan and BYD, who recently teamed up to develop and finance international premium content, have unveiled the first project of their pact: a special episode of the “Miraculous Chibi” series featuring BYD’s new electric vehicle, the BYD Dolphin Surf.

The episode, titled “Watt a Dream Date!” launches worldwide on YouTube on Tuesday. It marks the start of a broader partnership between BYD, which has now surpassed Tesla as the world’s largest electric car company, and Mediawan, the European powerhouse co-founded by Pierre-Antoine Capton, whose portfolio includes 100 companies including Plan B, North Road, See-Saw Films and a stake in LuckyChap International.

Part of the globally popular ‘Miraculous’ franchise, ‘Miraculous Chibi’ is a short-form digital animated comedy spin-off built around slapstick humor and fast-paced, non-verbal storytelling, featuring Ladybug, Cat Noir and other characters from the franchise. The new 52-episode season concluded in December 2025 and has already generated more than 350 million YouTube views worldwide, according to Mediawan, in addition to a 132% year-over-year increase in viewership.

In the special episode, Marinette uses the BYD Dolphin Surf as she races through Paris to reach a date with Adrien. Along the way, a series of accidents turns the journey into a chaotic adventure, with the electric city car becoming a central element of the story.

“Miraculous” has already become a blockbuster franchise and one of France’s biggest animation exports in the world. Created by Thomas Astruc, Jérémy Zag and Nathanaël Bronn, the franchise spans six seasons – with a seventh currently in production – as well as spin-offs and a feature film. The series, produced by Miraculous Corp, the joint venture between Mediawan and ZAG, is broadcast in more than 150 territories and has amassed more than 60 million followers on social media platforms.

Although the financial terms of the deal between the two companies have not been disclosed, it is believed to involve a cash injection of over €15 million. As part of their financial and creative alliance, BYD vehicles will appear in future Mediawan productions, including the upcoming feature film ‘Miraculous’, as well as some original formats inspired by the BYD brand. Mediawan’s output includes more than 400 titles produced each year across drama, unscripted, documentary, film and original animation, including Plan B’s ‘F1’ and ‘Adolescence’, See-Saw Films’ ‘Slow Horses’ and the popular series ‘Call My Agent!’ and ‘Backrooms’ from North Road.

In Cannes, Mediawan and BYD organized the first edition of their Build Your Dream Award with a prestigious jury chaired by Chinese filmmaker Chen Kaige and consisting of Mélanie Laurent, Hafsia Herzi and Yann Demange. Ukrainian filmmaker Zhanna Ozirna’s wedding drama “Honeymoon” won the opening prize at a chic ceremony that took place on Albane’s terrace.
