Jon Stewart slams Donald Trump’s crumbling Freedom 250 concert

On Monday night’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Jon Stewart made fun of President Donald Trump’s Freedom 250 concert series after more than half of the acts dropped out.

“Man, I need some good news. I need some relief. And I’ll tell you why,” Stewart said at the top of his monologue. “Because, as many of you know, that big Freedom 250 concert that I was looking forward to… has run into some problems.”

Stewart then turned to a segment from NBC News, which reported that five of the nine artists scheduled to perform at Freedom 250 have dropped out, citing “political concerns.” Those who left the event include Martina McBride, Young MC, The Commodores, Morris Day and Bret Michaels.

The mass exodus of acts prompted Stewart to ask, “Is anyone still performing?” The answer came in the form of an enthusiastic TikTok from rapper Vanilla Ice, who exclaimed in his post, “America turns 250! I’m super honored to do this concert with everyone. We’re going to bring back the ’90s.”

“There you go!” Stewart exclaimed. “See? Everyone quit, but not Vanilla Ice. Vanilla Ice didn’t quit. He saw a problem, and yes, he solved it.”

After Freedom 250 began to fall apart, Trump turned to Truth Social to declare that he wanted to “cancel it,” although it was not clear whether he was referring to the entire concert series or just the shows featuring the artists who pulled out. He also took the opportunity to criticize the “crooked judges” who have ruled against him in his quest for control of the Kennedy Center.

“Cancel it,” Trump wrote Saturday evening, “just as I canceled my involvement in the failing and unsafe life of the Kennedy Center because a highly conflicted, corrupt federal judge has said I should not spend my time and money trying to make the center great again, in fact much bigger than it ever was before! It would also have been nice to see a Republican/Democratic union bring it back to life. The Kennedy Center is broken, unsafe and bankrupt, and is before Judge Cooper has also stated that the Center’s very prestigious board had no authority to add the name ‘TRUMP’, despite the fact that hundreds of millions of dollars of my time and money will be needed for its successful reincarnation. So now the Kennedy Center will collapse, both structurally and financially. President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
