Chinese Drama ‘My Dearest Stranger’ Secures Asia Deals

“My Dearest Stranger,” the Chinese crime-mystery-romance series that has amassed more than 270 million views on Youku since its premiere in February, has signed distribution deals for Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Macau, along with a global airline rights deal.

The series is produced internationally by Hishow Entertainment and hit No. 1 on multiple daily charts during its initial local run. These achievements have helped Hishow attract continued interest from Southeast Asian buyers.

Focusing on the hidden truths behind a seemingly ideal marriage, the series layers psychological tension over the romantic drama, creating a reckoning that turns the central relationship upside down.

The cast is led by Bosco Wong (“The Queen of News,” “Golden Brother,” “Heart of Greed”), Wang Luodan (“Caught in the Web,” “The Dead End”) and Yuan Hong (“Nirvana in Fire,” “Black Dog”). It is directed by Yu-Hsien Lin, winner of the Golden Horse Award. The title marks Wong’s first television series since taking home the TVB Best Actor Award earlier this year.

“’My Dearest Stranger’ has connected very well with Chinese audiences, and we are very encouraged by the response from international buyers,” said Lebin He, international sales manager at Hishow. “What draws audiences to this romance is the disturbing question that underlies every intimate relationship: Can you really trust the person who sleeps next to you? Secrets exist in almost every relationship, and the fear of what may be hidden beneath the surface is universal. These emotional and psychological elements have helped shape the series’ success.”
