Trump delays AI security executive order: ‘I don’t want to get in the way of that leading’

President Donald Trump has delayed signing an executive order that would allow the government to evaluate AI models before releasing them.
Trump claimed he wasn’t happy with the order’s language: “I didn’t like certain aspects of it,” he told the White House press pool. “We lead China, we lead everyone, and I don’t want to do anything that gets in the way of that leadership.”
The unofficial reason: He said not enough tech CEOs could make it to Washington, DC, on short notice several reports. And what is a signing of an executive order without a photo?
The expected executive order would have directed the Office of the National Cyber Director and other agencies to develop a process to evaluate AI models for security before releasing them. This is partly in response to concerns about the release of Anthropic’s Mythos and OpenAI’s GPT-5.5 Cyber, both of which can quickly detect and exploit security vulnerabilities.
One of the main sticking points in the language of the EO, per CNNis a proposed requirement for AI companies to share advanced models with the government between 14 and 90 days before launch.
Trump said he was concerned that the EO’s language today “could have been a roadblock.”
