Meghan Markle left ‘the royal family speechless’ with a wedding day speech

The source added, “For her to be quiet for as long as she had, and then have this really safe space where she could make these heartfelt comments, was a really special moment.”

The confidante continued, “She spent so many years, whether on campus, on TV, or advocating for women’s empowerment, speaking out. And that is respected. She has great respect for the family and the institution she has joined. But it’s just a different way of life. We missed her.’

Years later, Markle revisited the topic during her much-discussed interview with Oprah Winfrey, comparing her royal experience to Ariel in Disney’s The Little Mermaid.

Markle recalled watching the animated film at Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace and realizing how deeply she connected with the story.

She told Oprah: “As an adult, who really watches? The Little Mermaid? But it happened and I thought, ‘Well, I’m here all the time, so I might as well watch this.'”

She continued, “And I said, ‘Oh my God, she falls in love with a prince and that makes her lose her voice.’ But towards the end she gets her voice back.”
