Virgin Voyages releases latest impact report | News

Virgin Voyages has released its latest sustainability and social impact report, entitled “Sea Change: Changing Sailing for Good”.

The report outlines the brand’s ongoing environmental, social and operational commitments for its fleet of four ships. It highlights a number of milestones and performance metrics across the company, including the company’s commitment to decarbonization, while detailing the operational changes, Crew initiatives and community programs implemented since the brand’s launch in 2021.

Key highlights from the report include:

* 36% female representation in onboard roles, compared to an industry average of just over 20%
* 97% of the water used on board in 2025 will come from the sea through on-board production systems
* 40% of household waste recycled
* Three of the four ships are already equipped with shore power connectivity
* Silicone-based hull paint technology delivers fuel savings of 7–8%
* ISO 14001 certification achieved in 2025 – an internationally recognized standard for environmental management systems
* No single-use plastic water bottles on board
* Volunteer initiatives delivered in 25 countries, with more than 50 community partners, at 174 events since launch

The report also details how Virgin Voyages is embedding sustainability considerations into daily operations, from working with suppliers to limiting group sizes on shore excursions to reduce destination impact, to introducing waste-based biofuels on selected Mediterranean routes.

“Sea Change: Changing Sailing for Good” is available for First Mates (travel agents) to download here.

SJ Walker, UK Director of Sales at Virgin Voyages, said: “Today’s travelers are increasingly aware of the social and environmental impact their cruise holidays have on both communities and our oceans, and this report gives First Mates another powerful tool to help tell the Virgin Voyages story. From our investments in fuel-saving technologies and shore power capabilities to the way we support our crew and the communities we visit, positive impact is embedded in the experience we provide.
