Newly renovated Oosterdam for a cruise through Europe, the Caribbean and the Panama Canal | News

Holland America Line is now accepting bookings for Oosterdam’s first series of voyages following its debut as the first ship to undergo Holland America Evolution, the cruise line’s largest fleet investment in its 153-year history. The new sailings cover eight itineraries and fifteen departure dates, offering guests the opportunity to experience Oosterdam’s onboard improvements as quickly as possible, combined with destination itineraries throughout Europe, the Caribbean and North America.
Oosterdam’s return marks the first chapter of Holland America Evolution, a multi-year modernization designed to bring the best of the fleet’s Pinnacle Class to more ships. Following the ship’s transformation, Oosterdam is introducing new stateroom and suite categories designed to reflect how guests travel today, while expanding access to signature locations.
For the first time, solo travelers will have purpose-built Solo Verandahs with a private balcony and dedicated work space. The Solo Verandahs are located on decks 8 and 11. They provide excellent vantage points comparable to our highest veranda categories and offer strong added value compared to full verandas in similar locations. Guests looking for premium accommodations can also choose from the newly introduced Bridgeview Suites, with sweeping ocean views, panoramic windows and expansive living space, as well as Vista Suites, debuting in Oosterdam for the first time. Guests can also book the redesigned Pinnacle Suite, which offers 1,500 square feet of sophisticated living space with scenic views and a private balcony. A separate living room, powder room, bedroom, ensuite bathroom and walk-in closet create a seaside retreat.
“We are all excited about what Holland America Evolution means for our fleet and for our guests,” said Michael Stendebach, senior vice president of Holland America Line’s Food, Beverage and Rooms division. “We can’t wait to welcome guests aboard the upper Oosterdam through these new voyages, where they will be among the first to experience what this transformation will bring. From their first step on board, guests will experience a more refined and thoughtfully designed experience, with new spaces such as the Grand Dutch Café providing a sense of comfort and welcome as their holiday begins.”
As part of the Evolution enhancements, Oosterdam welcomes the Grand Dutch Café, expanding one of Holland America Line’s most popular locations beyond the Pinnacle Class ships. Inspired by European café culture and rooted in the cruise line’s Dutch heritage, the venue provides an inviting all-day meeting place for coffee, pastries and small plates, influenced by the relaxed rhythm of cafés in Amsterdam and Northern Europe. Guests sailing aboard the Oosterdam can enjoy the Grand Dutch Café as they explore the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and along the American west coast.
First Cruises puts the spotlight on Oosterdam’s post-evolution implementation
After debuting as the first ship to undergo Holland America Evolution, Oosterdam will sail a carefully planned series of cruises across multiple regions designed to showcase the enhanced onboard experience. The ship will return to service on December 2, 2027, with a seven-day tour of the Western Mediterranean from Barcelona, Spain, calling at Valencia and Malaga, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; and Tangier, Morocco; before embarking on a 13-day transatlantic crossing to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Guests can also book a 20-day Collectors’ Voyage to combine the two cruises, giving them more time to enjoy both the splendor of the Mediterranean and the ship’s new amenities.
Oosterdam will then spend the 2027/2028 winter season in the Caribbean, with a mix of nine- and twelve-day itineraries focusing on the southern Caribbean and the ABC Islands, as well as one eleven-day itinerary that allows guests to celebrate the winter holidays on board. These longer sailings give guests time to fully enjoy the ship’s newly introduced accommodations, while combining tropical destinations with the enhanced onboard experience introduced through Evolution.
In the spring of 2028, Oosterdam will pass through the Panama Canal and move north to the Pacific coast. The voyage includes ports in Central America and Mexico, followed by scenic sailings along the US West Coast before ending in the Pacific Northwest, offering a seamless sequence of itineraries designed for unhurried exploration.
Holland America Evolution sets the stage for Oosterdam’s new voyages
Holland America Evolution is a comprehensive, multi-year initiative to thoughtfully reimagine six ships in the fleet through revitalizations from bow to stern. Inspired by guest feedback and anchored in the design and amenities of Pinnacle Class ships, Evolution focuses on expanding onboard choice, introducing new stateroom and suite categories, adding guest favorite locations and revamping key public spaces, while maintaining the perfect ship experience that Holland America Line is known for. Oosterdam is the first ship to complete the transformation and sets the tone for future Evolution improvements in the fleet.
