‘White Lotus’ season 4 with Laura Dern

Laura Dern has joined the cast of “The White Lotus” Season 4 Variety has confirmed.

Dern joins the series in place of Helena Bonham Carter, who recently left the series shortly after filming began. However, Dern does not take on the exact role that Bonham Carter would play. Instead, she plays a new character developed by mastermind Mike White.

Previously announced cast members include: Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Dylan Ennis, Corentin Fila, Ari Graynor, Marissa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, Kumail Nanjiani and Nadia Tereszkiewicz. Additional cast includes Chloe Bennet, Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, Max Greenfield, Frida Gustavsson, Charlie Hall, Jarrad Paul, Rosie Perez, Ben Schnetzer and Laura Smet.

According to the official description of season 4: “The fourth season will follow a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over a weeklong period, taking place during the Cannes Film Festival. Hotels include the Airelles Château de la Messardière as the White Lotus du Cap and the Hôtel Martinez as the White Lotus Cannes. In addition to Cannes, the season will film in St. Tropez, Monaco and Paris, although the story will continue to be set in the Côte d’Azur.

White is the writer, director and executive producer. David Bernad and Mark Kamine also serve as executive producers.

The role brings White and Dern together again under the HBO umbrella. The pair previously created the HBO series “Enlightened,” in which Dern also starred. They also worked together on the film “Year of the Dog,” which White wrote and directed and in which Dern played a supporting role. Dern also made an uncredited voice cameo in season 2’s “The White Lotus”.

Dern has been nominated nine times for an Emmy Award and won the 2017 award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series for “Big Little Lies.” Her other nominations come from her work on projects such as “Palm Royale,” “The Tale” and “Enlightened.” She has also been nominated for an Academy Award three times and won Best Supporting Actress in 2020 for “Marriage Story.” Her other credits include the “Jurassic Park” franchise, 2019’s “Little Women” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
