Mark Duplass which ‘Morning Show’ co-star he voted for
Although Mark Duplass is up for an Emmy on Sunday for his work as Chip on “The Morning Show,” he admits he’s not preparing an acceptance speech ahead of the big night.
“But I do have a tuxedo,” he told me Friday evening at the Television Academy’s Performer Nominee Celebration at Wallis in Beverly Hills. “I’m excited about my tuxedo.”
Then he said, “Have you seen ‘Dumb and Dumber’?”
Duplass, who has never been shy about talking about his mental health struggles, also revealed his Emmy morning plans to help ease any social anxiety he might experience during the awards show.
“I’m going to go to the gym and work out and try to scratch my social anxiety jitters,” he said. “I’m an elliptical man. I used to be a runner, but I’m now 47. Nothing can give you a runner’s high, but I want to keep my knees. I need my endorphins and the elliptical trainer gives them to me. I like a four-mile, 36-minute ride with intervals. I can get pretty much anything I need at that moment. Then I go for a walk and make my phone calls. It takes me about 15,000 steps.”

“The Morning Show” is up for 16 nominations, including Best Actress in a Drama Series: Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. Duplass called deciding which co-star to vote for a “Sophie’s choice.”
“But yes, I made a choice,” he said with a laugh when asked to reveal who he voted for.
Duplass hopes his second Emmy nomination for acting — he was also nominated for “The Morning Show” in 2020 — will draw more attention to his independent projects. “It’s cool, but I’ve distanced myself from the need to be nominated,” he said. “I have been in therapy. I’m a good boy. But when you get it, you realize, “Oh, there’s still a little bit of ego there and it feels nice to be stroked.”
“And then the pragmatic side of me says, ‘Oh, maybe this will open up more roles for me. Maybe this means I can cast myself in my own independent projects and this will sell them so more and more people will see them,” he continued. “To me it’s a whole ecosystem.”
The Emmys air Sunday on ABC starting at 5:00 PM PT.
