Steve-O cancels plan to get breast implants for Comedy Sketch
“Jackass” alumnus Steve-O revealed in a new interview with Consequence that he scrapped a plan to temporarily get breast implants for hidden camera sketches he planned to film for his upcoming live tour, “The Super Dummy Tour.” The idea was that Steve-O would make himself look like a woman and then trick groups of men on the street.
“I had surgery for that within 10 hours,” Steve-O said. “The operation was supposed to take place at eight in the morning. And the night before at 10 p.m. I got a call saying the anesthesiologist didn’t interfere because he found out I was doing it as a stunt. And that started a chain reaction where the doctor didn’t want to be associated with it anymore, and they struggled to find another surgery center to make it happen.
The next day, Steve-O was at a supermarket and the clerk checking him out happened to be transgender, so he revealed his grand plan to get breast implants to see if the clerk was comfortable with it or not. One idea was that Steve-O would get the implants and then shave his body hair and remove his tattoos so he could attend a motorcycle rally and flirt with men, only to take off his helmet and reveal that he was actually a man is.
“I knew what my motivation was, I knew what my intention was, and it wasn’t to hurt anyone,” Steve-O said. “I just tried to laugh. I had done some workshop shows to test out material, and after the shows a number of trans people came up to me to show their support [the stunt]. And I think some people would have been okay with it, and some people wouldn’t have been okay with it. It would have been a mixed bag.”
The clerk fell into the latter category, saying that “the part where I deliberately went out to make people think I was a woman and then fool them, and then celebrate the idea of hatred against them [trans people] – that was one [bad] thing.”
Additionally, the clerk described “how they weren’t allowed to use the bathroom at their workplace, that there were maybe 28 states in the country that would arrest them for having an ID that said a woman. That there were politicians who made concerted efforts to lock them up in internment camps. It was really quite heartbreaking, the level of oppression that was described.
That’s when Steve-O chose not to go through with his plan to get breast implants as ‘framed like that, I thought about it in a way I hadn’t before, you know, wow, maybe it’s not all fun and games.” . Especially the jokes.”
Steve-O originally announced his plan to get breast implants in July. The “Jackass” favorite will play “The Super Dummy Tour” in theaters across the U.S. this fall. Go to Consequence’s website to read his interview in its entirety.
