Jet2holidays reaches milestone of 1,500 certified sustainable hotels | News

Jet2holidays has announced that 1,500 hotels in its collection are now classified as a ‘Certified Sustainable Hotel’, meaning they meet an official standard for sustainable accommodation practices on the ABTA list of hotel certification schemes.

The company launched the sustainability label program for hotels in 2023, which is one of many tangible actions in its sustainability strategy, and is a key action under the ‘In Resort’ pillar of this strategy.

The scheme allows customers and independent travel agents to easily find and choose accommodation that has achieved sustainability certification. Examples of areas included in the certification process include reducing energy, water and waste, sourcing products locally, supporting local communities and using reusable, returnable and recycled products.

There were 800 hotels in the collection at launch and Jet2holidays has significantly expanded this offering, with more than 1,500 hotels now included in the Certified Sustainable Hotels portfolio. As a result of this expansion, customers can choose from even more certified hotels, meaning they can choose a holiday that suits them.

Customers can find and view the collection by visiting www.jet2holidays.com/sustainable-hotels and independent travel agents can visit https://trade.jet2holidays.com/sustainable-hotels

Today’s announcement means Jet2 is on track to achieve its target of having 3,000 properties in its Certified Sustainable Hotels collection by 2035.

To further this, and to continue to promote the program to hotel partners, Jet2holidays has also today announced the creation of a new sustainable hotel toolkit, which will be launched to many hotel partners at ITB Berlin this week. The toolkit which outlines more about what Jet2holidays’ Certified Sustainable Hotels label is, as well as the process for obtaining certification, will support the company’s hotel partners in obtaining sustainability certification. It also highlights the benefits of certification, with real-life examples from hotels bringing these benefits to life.

The toolkit was developed in collaboration with the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), which uses the Green Key criteria. The Green Key criteria are a leading standard for excellence in environmental responsibility and sustainable business practices within the tourism sector.

Paul Southall, Head of Sustainability at Jet2 said: “Our Certified Sustainable hotels collection is a key part of our ambitious sustainability strategy, meaning customers can easily find and choose accommodation that has achieved sustainability certification. We plan to expand this collection to more than 3,000 hotels by 2035, and the launch of our brand new toolkit will help our valued hotel partners understand the benefits of this certification so they can meet the demand of customers wanting to make sustainable travel choices.”
