On CNN NewsNightPhillip called the situation “wild” and explained:

“Don’t let go tonight. Sources tell CNN that Donald Trump is privately lashing out at Republicans who publicly condemned a racist video he shared on social media that depicted the Obamas as monkeys, questioned their loyalty and even promised consequences for them. Among those senators is Katie Britt, who Trump has declared dead. Her office has labeled that account as fake news,” she said Mediaite.

“And then there’s Senator Tim Scott, the Senate’s only black Republican, whose response Trump has privately claimed sparked national attention to this story. A senior Trump administration official tells CNN that Trump felt Scott could have handled the matter privately, adding the quote: ‘He was like, ‘We work together all the time. He didn’t have to comment publicly.’ Now Senator Scott’s office declined to comment,” she added.

Phillip continued: “CNN’s intrepid reporters, however, have this coverage of it. It reads: ‘When the video first gained popularity, Scott, who speaks regularly with the president, first reached out privately. A well-known source said he couldn’t get a hold of the president, so he turned to It’s not true that Tim Scott is the reason this blew up.
