HGTV cancels ‘Rehab Addict’ after host Nicole Curtis makes racist comments

HGTV has ended its long-running home restoration series “Rehab Addict” after star Nicole Curtis was caught using a racial slur during filming.

“HGTV was recently made aware of an offensive racial comment during the filming of ‘Rehab Addict,’” the network said. Variety in a statement. “This type of language is not only hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners and employees – it does not align with HGTV’s values. Accordingly, we have removed the series from all HGTV platforms.”

The statement continued: “We remain committed to promoting a culture of respect and inclusivity in our content and in our workplace.”

The first two episodes of Season 9 of ‘Rehab Addict’ aired in July 2025, but the series was cut after Curtis an “executive decision” has been taken to shelve the remaining episodes and re-record them for a later release. The remainder of the season was scheduled to return on February 12, but that plan has been scrapped.

In one statement to TMZ Following the cancellation, Curtis said: “I want to be clear: the word in question is wrong and is not part of my vocabulary and never has been, and I apologize to everyone.” She tells us she was unaware of HGTV’s decision to pull the plug on her show the same day it was set to return to the air after a hiatus. She added, “I am grateful for the fifteen-year journey we have shared. It was a meaningful chapter, but my focus is not on my career. My focus right now is rightly on my relationships and my community – the people who truly know my character and where my heart lies.

“Rehab Addict” debuted its first three seasons on the DIY Network before moving to HGTV in 2014. The show follows Curtis as she restores old houses.
