Savannah Guthrie is absent from ‘Today’ after 84-year-old mother Nancy went missing from her Arizona home

“We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Office at 520-351-4900.”

According to local police, Nancy was last seen by her relatives on January 31 around 9:45 PM local time. She was reported missing by her relatives in Tucson on Sunday morning.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed at a press conference the same day that foul play had not been ruled out, adding that certain details found in Nancy’s home had raised “serious concerns” among officers present, although he gave no further information about what had been discovered.

According to Today.comSheriff Nanos added that his department is particularly concerned about Nancy’s well-being due to her age and physical condition, although he noted that she has full control of her cognitive abilities.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, including homicide detectives, Sheriff Nanos revealed, saying, “You don’t normally get the sheriff out at a scene like this, but what we learn from the home is very concerning.

“I hope we find her safe and sound, but we cannot ignore what lies ahead.”

Missing persons posters describe Nancy as 6 feet tall, weighing 150 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

Local authorities are using all the resources at their disposal in the search for Nancy, including drones, a helicopter, an airplane and search and rescue dogs. Volunteers are also combing the area around Guthrie’s home looking for Savannah’s mother.

“We pretty much did everything we could,” Nanos added.

Born in Melbourne, Australia — where her father worked at the time — the “Today” host spent much of her childhood and adolescence in Arizona, after her family returned to the U.S. as a toddler and eventually settled in Tucson.

Property records show that Nancy, whose husband died when Savannah was just 16, has lived in the same home for the past 50 years, having purchased the home in 1975 for just $85,000.

Savannah recently returned to Arizona to film a segment about her hometown for the “Today” show, including a trip to see her mother in her childhood home.

Before the segment aired, Guthrie revealed the significance of her journey – and her desire to highlight the many places in Tucson that have helped her become the person she is today, explaining to Tucson.com that even after moving, she maintained close ties to the community.

“I’m emotional about it. I’m very proud of Tucson. I think it’s an absolutely beautiful and unique place to be from, and I’m really proud of it, so this has just been a joy,” she said during the segment.

Savannah, who attended the University of Arizona, didn’t leave the state until after graduation, when she got a job in Butte, MT, a role she said her mother actively encouraged her to pursue, despite her being devastated at the idea of ​​her daughter moving away.

“It’s not because she didn’t want me to stay. Of course she wanted me to stay,” the “Today” star recalled. “But she says, ‘I’m not going to stand in the way of your dreams.'”

Savannah moved to New York full-time in 2011, when she was named official co-host of the fourth hour of the “Today” show, alongside Al Roker And Natalie Morales.

After initially living in a Tribeca apartment with her husband, Mike Veldmanthe on-air star has since moved into a townhouse in Brooklyn with her husband and their two children.

They said at the time that they moved to the Brooklyn pad in 2023 after selling their Tribeca apartment because they had a “vision and dream to live in a townhouse.”
