Legendary actor Catherine O’Hara died Friday at the age of 71, sending shockwaves through Hollywood and beyond.
Known for her roles in iconic film classics like “Home Alone,” “Beetlejuice” and “Best in Show,” the beloved star was also a scene-stealer on a number of television shows, most notably as the eccentric Moira Rose on “Schitt’s Creek” and, most recently, as former studio chief Patty Leigh on “The Studio.”

Starring Moira Rose, the former soap star and eccentric matriarch of a once wealthy family forced to rebuild their lives in a small town they bought as a joke, O’Hara won an Emmy for her role in the CBC/Pop TV comedy created by Dan and Eugene Levy, starring Eugene Levy, Dan Levy and Annie Murphy.

The nightmare before Christmas

In Tim Burton’s 1993 “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” O’Hara lent her famous voice to Sally, a rag doll from Halloween Town who falls in love with Jack Skellington (Chris Sarandon). She also voiced Shock, one of Oogie Boogie’s trick-or-treaters, in the film. In 2023, the actress performed “Sally’s Song” at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, 30 years after the film first debuted.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

In the sequel to 1992’s “Home Alone,” Kevin McCallister (Culkin) is once again accidentally left behind and stranded in New York City while the rest of his family boards a flight to Florida. O’Hara returns as Kevin’s mother Kate. It is striking that Donald Trump also makes a short guest appearance.
