The reason why Senior Royals rage at Andrew Windsor

Windsor’s peppercorn arrangement at Royal Lodge – a token rent of one peppercorn if requested – has drawn attention to how Edward Mountbatten-Windsor and his wife Sophie pay just $6,700 a year for Bagshot Park, Surrey, a 120-room mansion they have occupied since 1998.

Initially, they paid a market-rate rent until 2007, when they too were paid a peppercorn rent despite their consistent contributions to royal duties, often traveling abroad on behalf of Charles, who continues his cancer treatment.

By contrast, Andrew’s daughter, Princess Eugenie, lives with her husband Jack Brooksbank and their sons August and Ernest in Ivy Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace, one of two London bases the couple maintains.

Eugenie also owns a house in Comporta, Portugal.

Her sister, Princess Beatrice, lives at St James’s Palace with her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and daughters Sienna and Athena, while she also keeps a Cotswold farm purchased in 2021.
