Oscar winner Guneet Monga Kapoor teams up with Karthik Subbaraj

Sikhya Entertainment has completed its first collaboration with acclaimed director Karthik Subbaraj, with the production launching in Madurai, South India on Monday.
The Tamil-language film brings together the banner led by Oscar winner Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain with the filmmaker behind ‘Pizza’, ‘Jigarthanda’, ‘Petta’, ‘Iraivi’, ‘Mercury’, ‘Jagame Thanthiram’, ‘Mahaan’, ‘Jigarthanda DoubleX’ and ‘Retro’. Filming began with a ceremonial blessing.
Sikhya’s credits include India’s Academy Award-winning short documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers’, along with ‘The Lunchbox’, ‘Masaan’, ‘Pagglait’ and the Indian National Film Award winner ‘Kathal’. The company has built its profile on stories that tell locally rooted stories with cross-cultural resonance.
The new film marks Subbaraj’s tenth directorial effort. His work over the past decade has positioned him as a distinctive creative force within the Tamil film industry.
“At Sikhya, we have always believed in nurturing original voices and telling bold, homegrown stories that travel across cultures,” said Monga Kapoor. “Collaborating with Karthik feels like a natural extension of that mission. Karthik’s cinema is rooted, inventive and wildly original, yet universal in emotion. He bridges mass appeal and authorial vision with such ease, and I’m excited to take this journey with Karthik.”
Subbaraj said: “I have always admired the kind of cinema that Sikhya represents, it really aligns with the artistic vision that I am always passionate about executing. Working with Guneet and Achin, who have built a legacy of meaningful and award-winning films, is truly special and I am happy that we are going into this together. This story we are creating is something that is very close to my heart, and I am happy that I have found the right producers for it. I look forward to this new and exciting collaboration.”
Jain added, “Karthik brings a rare balance of craft and instinct, he is simultaneously cult and commercial. His films are unpredictable yet deeply emotional. We are excited to collaborate with a filmmaker who understands both the pulse of the audience and the core of storytelling. This collaboration reflects Sikhya’s mission to take powerful, rooted stories and express them through a truly global cinematic language.”
