Police in North Carolina can apparently beat up a suspect on video and go to work as if nothing happened… because that’s what’s happening in Greensboro right now.
People are outraged over a video going viral… it shows at least three officers using force against a black man they pinned to the ground, and one officer appears to have a knee near the man’s neck.
A spokesperson for the Greensboro Police Department tells TMZ that the officers in the video remain on active duty.
The video shows an officer lunging at the person…although police say he punches the man in the shoulder to get him to let go of his arm.
Greensboro police say the video shows an arrest they made last Sunday evening. Police say they were on a proactive patrol when they spotted the man in the video: a 37-year-old Nathaniel Williams — sitting in the driver’s seat of a car in a parking lot, with pot on your lap.
Police say they ordered Williams out of the car, but he refused multiple commands… and officers eventually removed him from the car and placed him in handcuffs.
Police say Williams was able to free one of his hands from the handcuffs, and they say he then attacked one of the officers. Police say a struggle ensued, with Williams landing on the ground and tucking an arm under his body to avoid being handcuffed.
Police say that’s why the officer caught him on video. They described the blows as “suprascapular blows to his posterior shoulder area to induce him to release his arm.”
Greensboro police say Williams was arrested and charged with two felony counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, one misdemeanor count of destruction of evidence and five misdemeanor counts… including possession of marijuana – yes, weed is still illegal in North Carolina.
Police say there is an ongoing internal investigation into the use of force seen in the video.
