Amazon TV -Head Vernon Sanders leaves after seven years

After seven years, Vernon Sanders left the company as head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios.
Sanders’ departure was his own choice, Variety has learned. He announced his decision in a memo that was sent to the staff on Wednesday and noticed that his work as a director “made him more and more away from what was originally attracting me to this industry: the daily creative process of making television. Earlier this summer I made the decision to return to those creative roots.”
Read below are memo complete.
Dear colleagues,
After just over seven years at Amazon MGM Studios, I write to share my decision to resign as head of global television. Looking back on those early days, two things immediately struck me about Amazon: the exceptionally smart people and the huge, endless horizon of what is possible within this company. Seven years later, the same attributes continue to thrive here.
During my term of office, the company repeatedly entrusted me with extensive responsibilities and new challenges. Although I was deeply honored by the growth of the scope, I noticed that I was increasingly far away from what was originally attracting me to this industry the daily creative process of making television. Earlier this summer I made the decision to return to those creative roots.
I want to express my deepest thanks to Jennifer Salke for inviting to this company and be a role model for how you can be daring, taking risks and being human. For Mike Hopkins, your steadfast leadership has played an important role in shaping the new vision and success of Prime Video. Thank you for your personal guidance and support last year.
By nature I have always been a people person and the extraordinary talent here has made remarkable every day. The brilliant spirits, the creative minds and the cooperation energy have been really inspiring. Together we pushed limits and created something really special.
We are all owed to our incredible makers, talented actors and tireless crews that bring our shows to life – they are the heart and soul of everything we do.
I leave with an in -depth sense of satisfaction and enormous gratitude. The successes that we achieved together make me incredibly proud. I have absolutely faith in the constant success of this team and the exciting journey that lies in front of us. 2026 will be our best year so far! I have committed myself to guarantee a seamless transition in the coming weeks while he works through follow -up plans.
Thank you for being part of this great chapter.
As my mother would say, it was a great ride.
With gratitude and appreciation,
Vernon
