Velt: If you look back on your career, what are the crucial moments you have had that you have formed as a leader or the process or perspective of the company shifted?

Scott: Well, grow up, of course, family, my parents, grandparents, coaches, teachers and only our team here at John L. Scott – all who have had an impact in my life.

But for me, for leadership, I just grew up like an Eagle Scout. I was a co-captain of the football teams. I was actually a homecoming king. My parents taught me to explain my hand in friendship for everyone, what I do and I enjoy. And then Brotherhood President, and then go to the company and collaborate with the team.

Scott continued to emphasize specific moments of personal development that served as turning points in his leadership growth-rather seminars for self-improvement and spiritual reflection.

Scott: All those things play in the game. But some really important items came when my father introduced me to personal performance minars.

The first was the Pacific Institute. It is about positive confirmations about who you are, where you want to be, who today brings it forward with who you are and that future being. And then the other was later, I went to a class called Landmark Education. And again, it was only about creating a life that you love and to go through these personal performance.
