‘Wizard of Oz’ blown up by AI for giant Sphere screen

The Massive Las Vegas Location Known as Sphere will show his first classic film ‘The Wizard of Oz’ from 28 August and as detailed in A segment on CBS Sunday morningThis is not only a matter of taking the existing film and projecting on the 160,000 square base of Sphere, Wraparound LED screen.
Instead, James Dolan, CEO of Sphere Entertainment, said a team of 2,000 people creating a new experience. This includes the use of AI to increase both the resolution of the existing film and to extend the images outside the framework of what has actually been shot.
Turner Classic Movie presenter Ben Mankiewicz said, for example, that by using AI, “a grainy close-up of Dorothy is richly detailed, and then through a process called outpainting, although it looks like magic we see the rest of the Scarecrow, the Yellow Brick Road and the mountains of Oz.”
In other cases, expanding the frame means making new versions of the existing actors.
Despite these changes, Dolan said: “Our standard was not to change the film at all, but to bring you to the film, as if you were in the studio when it was recorded.”
