The Jiostar of India is making $ 1.3 billion turnover in Q1, sets IPL records

The Reliance Industry of billionaire Mukesh Ambani reported strong financial and operational results of his media and entertainment unit Jiostar for the quarter ending on 30 June, powered by unprecedented digital and television viewers during the Cricket Tournament of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
India’s financial year runs from April to March, making it the first tax quarter of the company for FY2025–26.
Jiostar recorded the income of INR11.222 CRORE ($ 1.3 billion), an increase in INR11.032 Crore ($ 1.28 billion) in the previous period. EBITDA (profit for interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) rose to INR1.017 Crore ($ 118.1 million), an increase in INR774 Crore ($ 89.9 million), with margins that improve to 10.6% of 8.1%.
Jiohotstar, the group streamer’s flagship streamer, on average more than 460 million monthly active users during the quarter and surpassed 1.04 billion Android downloads. The IPL 2025 drove a lot from the momentum, where Jiohotstar alone achieved 652 million viewers and an increase of 28% on an annual basis. Peak simultaneity during the IPL final hit 55.2 million, making it the most viewed T20 match ever on digital. IPL 2025 reached a total of 1.19 billion viewers on both platforms.
Linear TV viewers also rose. The Jiostar network reached more than 800 million people during the quarter and won a share of 35.5% of the entertainment viewers. Star Plus remained the leading Hindi language General Entertainment Channel with six of the top ten shows, while Star Utsav was the best-ranked for free to Air Channel on DD Free Dish. Regional flagships Ster Pravah, Ster Jalsha, Star Maa and Asian continued to lead in their respective markets.
In the field of entertainment, Jiohotstar placed his highest monthly watch time ever in June. “Criminal Justice” was opened as the biggest streaming original from 2025 (according to Ormax Media), while “Kesari 2” became the most viewed Indian film of the year on the platform. International content also performed strongly, with “Mufasa: The Lion King” who so far became the most viewed international title of Jiohotstar.
The company also provided exclusive digital rights to the current five-test-cricket series from India against England, which contributed to a sports portfolio that already included the ICC World Test Championship final.
Profit after tax more than doubled to $ 67.4 million from $ 26.6 million. The operational income reached $ 1.11 billion, while depreciation and financial costs were $ 36.7 million and $ 13.7 million respectively.
“The media company of Reliance has emerged as a one-stop platform for entertainment, sports and news content from all over the world. We will continue to improve our series of offers in genres to meet the demanding Indian public,” Ambani said.
