Cultpix Huips Streaming Rights to something weird exploitation library
In a movement that will certainly delight the bizarre and unusual corners of the cinema, Cultpix has concluded an extensive deal to become the exclusive streaming house for the enormous library of exploitation and genrefilms of Something Weirdd.
The Pact, unveiled on Saturday at the Cannes film market, will see the launch of the Dedicated Something Weird Channel (SWC) on Cultpix’s platform from 1 June. The arrangement comes after Something Weird LLC (formerly something weird video) closed its download-to-own service and internal DVD-R production activities last October.

Lisa Petrucci, who is head of something strange after the death of founder Mike Vraney, called Cultpix “an ideal platform for storing and parts of cult-cinema in the online streaming age.”
“We are pleased to bring our collection to their service and to introduce these unique films to a new generation of viewers while we continue to serve our old fans,” Petrucci added.
The Cult Film Preservation Outfit will retain existing partnerships with physical media distributors, including American Genre Film Archive (Agfa), Severin Films, Kino Lorber, Distribpix Inc. and Aazgar Syndrome for selected Blu-ray releases.
Rickard Gramfors, co-founder and CEO of Cultpix, called the extensive partnership a natural evolution of their existing relationship with something weird, that “an important content partner has been four years ago since our launch.”
“This extensive partnership enables us to offer an even more extensive selection of cult and genre films to our members around the world,” said Gramfors.
The slightly weird archive – built by Vraney and Petrucci for decades – receives its own special section on the Cultpix platform, complete with the distinctive aesthetics and branding of the archive. Films will gradually roll out in different categories, with special composite collections that are marked periodically.
Despite the extra content, Cultpix recently reduced the prize for its global SVOD service up to $ 5.99 monthly or $ 49 per year. The service has collected a library of more than 1,800 titles through partnerships with more than 50 content providers, including 11 film institutions and national archives.
The streamer has also expanded its technical footprint and recently launched apps for Amazon FiretV and Android TV platforms to improve accessibility. Cultpix is considerably present in Cannes this year, where they also promote the launch of new Blu-rays with sister company Klubb Super 8.
