Zoë Kravitz about High Being for ‘The Studio’, Cut Kathryn Hahn scene reveals

Spoiler alert: This story contains spoilers for season 1, episode 9 of “The Studio”, which is now streaming on Apple TV+.

While he sat down to read the script for the latest episode of ‘The Studio’, with the character of Zoë Kravitz who unintentionally takes mushrooms, the SAG-nominated actor became a bit high to set the tone.

‘I sent Seth [Rogen] and Evan [Goldberg] Lots of crazy SMS messages. It had been a while since I had taken mushrooms, so I just remembered it and tried to make it as accurate as possible. Mushrooms are so specific, “says Kravitz Variety. “And then the rest of this will let go and be free. And the whole point is that you have no control when you stumble.”

In the penultimate episode of this season, entitled “Cinemacon”, Kravitz eats cookies on a chaotic Las Vegas Suite party organized by Continental Studios Head Matt Remick (Rogen), not realizing that the “Old-School Hollywood buffet” is actually risen with shooms. The catch is that it is the night for Cinemacon, where Kravitz is expected to give a large presentation that teases her upcoming film ‘Blackwing’, which means that it is up to Matt to clean up the mess and save everyone’s jobs.

It is a huge scene with almost every member of the ensemble, including colleague guest star Dave Franco, who hilariously shouts: “You just had 21 grams of Shrooooms! “Kravitz says that when she saw how wild Franco went, she was the key to play his energy while eating the cookies.

“I thought,” The more serious and the more chill I am, the funnier it will be, “so I just used it to know if that is where he will be, I will be there,” says Kravitz. “It was so nice. I mean, the most difficult, to be honest, is not laughing and not breaking. You don’t want to be that guy.”

The pressure not to break is higher for a show like ‘The Studio’, with many one-take sequences similar to that in ‘Birdman’. From her directing debut “Blink Twice”, Kravitz gave a new appreciation for what Rogen and his team implemented with the camera work.

“The technical part of it was the easiest for me – especially after directing a film, you simply have more understanding of what is about having these photos work,” says Kravitz. ‘The studio’ Cinematographer Adam Newport-Berra also worked with Kravitz on ‘Blink Twice’, so the two already had a steno.

After the energy of Kravitz is chosen to 11 as soon as the shrooms come into effect, Matt and Sal (Ike Barinholtz) lead her to a bedroom. Matt only gets off for about 30 seconds and more Shenanigans (of course) follows when Kravitz has a revelation about hours being stuck in a forest. That is when it really touches Matt that Kravitz is far away.

“I was really in a zone and just tried to stay loose, and then be ready for when the camera comes in because of the long take,” says Kravitz. “It is this funny combination of being completely out and [remaining] Very accurate because of the camera work. “

Kravitz recalls the filming of even more shameful moments that ultimately did not make the cut, including one with Kathryn Hahn, who plays Maya Mason from Marketinghoofd.

“There was a whole part where [Matt and Sal] Come back and I have built a fort and I hold fries, make crazy animal sounds and rolls around. I think I break a vase and shatter it everywhere, and then Kathryn Hahn takes me on the ground, hits me in the face and sings ‘Kumbaya’ for me – what I am so sad, it didn’t make it, “says Kravitz.” Had in the face by her was the honor of a life. “

Although Kravitz did not relate to the situations in this episode, she found the series of the Awards show in episode 8 more known. In that episode, Kravitz pretends that she does not give to win the best director until Matt, desperately thanked in her acceptance speech, teaches that she falsify it.

“It is clear that to be involved with every type of award circuit, to be nominated, really, you have to participate in a certain amount, which means you want it. And that’s fine! But people play this game a bit that we all agreed to do where you don’t care. And it’s okay,” says Kravitz. “Awards matter to a certain extent, maybe for our egos or whatever – and they don’t matter at all! It really is really complicated.”
