MSNBC ready to expand the screen time for Jen Psaki, ‘Weekend’ Trio

The new chef of MSNBC does not waste time to find out where she wants to take the progressive leaning network while preparing to be split off from NBCuniversal and its company parent, Comcast.
Rebecca Kutler, who was previously appointed President of MSNBC in February, is considering expanding the presence on the Jen Psaki screen, which is currently anchored hours on Sunday afternoon and Monday evening, as well as the trio of personalities that lead ‘the weekend’, ‘the Round table show that is broadcast on Saturday and Sunday morning and is led by Symone Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Menendez and Michael Steele, according to two people who are familiar with the discussions.
MSNBC refused to make Kutler available for comment. Puck previously reported discussions Moves around the aforementioned staff.
The changes, which none of all have not been formally announced, let Kutler go quickly to send MSNBC at a difficult moment. Now that Comcast splits most of its cable assets into a separate, public -traded company, MSNBC will probably have to navigate a future cut -out of the news limits of NBC News. At the moment a group of traditional news anchors, including Katy Tur and Chris Jansing, is filling the weekday hours of MSNBC, who offers reporting and journalism that is not baptized in blue as the Primetime Opinion programs of the outlet. Veteran Andrea Mitchell recently signed from noon that she had been anchored for decades, and an official replacement has not been revealed.
It is possible that Kutler may have to find new ways to fill that day hours. The manager is already working to find new Washington correspondents and a chief of Washington Bureau, according to one of the people who are familiar with the case, and recent discussions have focused on the possibility of journalists from stores such as the Washington Post and to hire polico; bring in the names of other networks; And the elevation of the current MSNBC contributions to anchor roles.
Just like other cable networks, MSNBC stands for important business challenges. More of the viewers who settle every evening to view a few hours of comments on MSNBC migrate elsewhere. MSNBC is expected to shed around 10.5% of its subscribers between the end of 2023 and the end of 2025, according to estimates by Kagan, a market for market research that is part of S&P Global Intelligence. Rivals Fox News Channel and CNN experience similar erosions during that period. MSNBC could be left at the end of 2025 with an average of 61.3 million viewers, compared to 68.5 million in 2023 – and this with an election year, usually an event that brings viewers back to news, between the two milestones.
MSNBC has worked to bring viewers back after the results of the 2024 presidential election. Both MSNBC and CNN saw a considerable erosion after the return of Donald Trump to the White House and the National Conversation, and both have unveiled programming shaking in recent weeks. At MSNBC, Rachel Maddow returned to hosting the hour from 9 am from Monday to Friday, compared to the schedule for Monday (with various special performances) that she has enjoyed in recent years. But Maddow is supposed to return to only Monday after Trump’s first 100 days in office, a movement that would also have housed the return of Alex Wagner, which hosted Tuesday to Friday.
Both Psaki and “The Weekend” are close to the heart of Kutler. She developed both the trio and “inside with Jen Psaki.” “The Weekend” enjoyed a peak in viewers in his time slot since it was launched in January 2024. Executives at MSNBC were clearly taken with Psaki, a former Pers Secretary of the White House, since she launched a Sunday hour in March 2003.
Giving both programs that give new space suggests that MSNBC would like to keep its progressive attitude instead of trying to tackle to Middenweg. And the movements would add diversity to the line -up of the network.
But for those two shows to get more space, others may have to be less. Kutler is undoubtedly juggling with her choices.
