Zillow is laying off about 3 percent of its workforce (but not shrinking)

The company said the terminations were performance-based and part of its typical annual review process. Zillow has positions open for about the same number of employees.

Zillow has terminated the employment of about 200 employees in recent weeks as part of what the company said were performance-related cuts, Inman has learned.

At the same time, the portal has almost the same number of vacancies, indicating that the job cuts were not part of a cost-cutting maneuver.

A Zillow spokesperson confirmed the size and nature of the cuts and said the terminations were not concentrated in any particular segment of the business. The spokesperson said the changes are part of a typical annual review process within the company.

With about 7,000 employees, the layoffs amount to about 3 percent of the company’s workforce, although Zillow is apparently not shrinking in size. The portal was not required to issue a WARN notice in advance as the move involved performance-based terminations rather than a mass layoff requiring 60 days’ notice for affected employees.

The company lists 201 open positions. Nearly half of these positions are within the company’s mortgage division, indicating Zillow continues to focus on its fastest-growing revenue segment even as the division under legal supervision.

That growth is spread across the country. Zillow currently lists open positions in 37 states plus Washington, D.C. Zillow’s mortgage business grew 36 percent in the third quarter of 2025, the most recent snapshot of the company’s performance.

The company also has a handful of open positions in its rental division, which was the fastest segment of revenue growth at 41 percent.
